You have a sorry husband! Taking the cell when you are about to deliver! Having a baby and would get on yahoo Q&A Now thats addicted! Name the baby Yahoo when it is born! Since you have a internet connection if it is a phone line turn off the computer and all the hospital if is a broad band connection quickly sign up with yahoo voice IM and then call the hospital! Forget you husband untill after the baby is born that will teach him to take the cell phone again!

Five miles will take quite to walk, so you better get started. Or you could go to the nearest busy highway and hitchhike to the neighbor. My labors always lasted a long time after the water broke, so I could shower and shave my legs and get the bag packed, get to the hospital, and still have 18 hours to wait. So hopefully you've got time til hubby gets home. If not, and the babies coming, spread out lots of clean sheets and get ready to push.
What to do!

When you read these instructions you will find that they read more as a list of what not to do. That's because childbirth is a normal event, and rarely an illness.

* Don't panic. Remaining calm can help you focus on the birth, even if you are alone.

* Remind mother to try to pant, or only push very gently with the contractions.

* As the baby's head becomes visible, place your hand on the head and provide it with support to keep it from popping out. Remind mother to try and pant during this part to help prevent tearing. If you're alone, simply place your hands over the baby's head as best as possible.

* Do not pull on the baby or it's head! You may gently guide the baby out.

* Gently stroke downward on the baby's nose to help expel the excess mucous and amniotic fluid.

* Place the baby skin-to-skin on mom, with the baby's head slightly lower than it's body (to help facilitate draining the mucous). Cover both of them with dry blankets or towels.

* Don't cut or pull on the umbilical cord.

* If the placenta is born place it next to the baby, again do not cut the cord.

* Keep mom and baby safe until the practitioner arrives, or until help gets there. Or until you can get to the place of birth.

from Oprah.com...
When the baby is born, use a dry, clean cloth to wipe away fluid from baby's nose and mouth to facilitate breathing.
Keep the baby's head just below the rest of its body, to help drain any fluid from its lungs. If the baby continues to have trouble breathing, do not slap the baby's bottom. It's more effective to hold the baby on its stomach and gently, but rigorously rub its back in a circular motion.
Touching along the spine stimulates breathing because it alerts the brain. You can also lightly flick your fingertips on the bottom of the baby's feet.
As soon as the baby is breathing, the cord needs to be clamped—you don't want the blood that's inside the baby to go back through the cord and into the mother. You can tie the cord with a shoestring, a hair clamp, or by tying a knot in it—just as long as you can stop the blood flow. Let the experts cut the cord when you get to the hospital so you don't risk infection.

I was in a similar predicament once but I was having a miscarriage and I was about 20 mi from the nearest town and 4 mi from a neighbor and couldn't walk. I put a note on the mailbox for the mailman. He came in and checked on me and then he went to the neighbors and called my family to come. It is very scary.Try getting in touch over the computer, several folks have given you their address and will help.Contact me if you don't get help and I will help. Meantime find your scissors and also a good string to tie off the cord on you and one on the baby and put them in a bowl and pour alcohol over them. Get some towels and a few wet clothes, and a glass of water for you in case it takes a while for someone to come.Get comfy in bed or on the floor with sheets or blankets under you. Have a pillow or two to help you when you have to lean up and push. Now you have the scissors, 2 strings, towels, wet clothes, and you are comfy. Let nature do it's job. You will know when to push. Use the towels to put between your legs to catch the blood and afterbirth, also to wipe the baby clean with and the wet clothes to clean his face and ears well. When the baby comes tie a good tight knot in the middle of the cord and another beside it and then cut in between the two knots. Don't cut close to his belly, let the dr fix it later. Try to use your finger to wipe out the stuff in his mouth so he won't choke first thing after making sure he is breathing well. Spank his bobo if he needs help.Remove the afterbirth and lay it to one side. You may need to place a towel up close to your vagina to catch blood. Stay down so your blood will stop easier.Wrap the baby with clean towels and lay him on your stomach sideways with his stomach down. That way the mucus can drain from his nose and mouth better until help comes. Just wait for help and wonder at the joy of being a mom. Nurse the baby if he gets figdety but don't worry if nothing comes out. It will after he starts sucking. God bless and congrats.

If this is true...R U KIDDING ME? you didnt have a back up plan?? SERIOUSLY???? RELAX, just cause your water broke, doesnt mean your going to go into labor right away... my sister in law, her water broke and she had the baby two days later. Me when i am induced and they break my water, it still takes a good 8 hours to deliver, so you should have some time. Meanwhile, lay down dont do anythign that may speed up labor...dont walk...dont shower...nothing that means you have to stand up. watch a movie... do you have a car..with a panic buton, turn it on maybe someone will here it and come help.......

when my water broke at 39 weeks I was not feeling any contractions so I put on a pair of depends (to keep from soaking the bed) and went back to sleep.
My contractions didn't start until the next afternoon, I had time to go for breakfast, drop my puppy off at my parents, visit my dad at work and walk around the mall to shop for thank you presents for the nurses who cared for me.
But then again I'm an L&D nurse, so i was a tiny more prepared.
Hopefully your husband is home now and he should probably take you to the hospital to get checked out.
If you are not having any contractions you can walk around and try to get yourself in labour
GOOD LUCK!

get an online friend to call for help.

Just read your other questions --- why aren't you in the hospital or at least staying with friends/family if you're having problems? why don't you have the cell phone? (your husband can call you on break from his work phone)....

First of all, calm down and take deep breaths, more than likely, especially if it is your first child, it will take hours to go through actual labor. However, since your water has broken, you need to get help IMMEDIATELY!!! Try looking up your local 911 on yellowpages.com for your city/town and see if they have an online service. I would think most would now with the advent of computers. Just relax, you didn't plan it this way, but you've got to remain calm for your baby and get help for yourself.

Good luck!
