It was the day that North Korean leader launched the round of missile attacks, and one hit Japan.

There was already a regional war in the Middle East, which was formed of the mergers of the four other local conflicts: US-Iraq, US-Afghanistan, Israel-Hamas, and Israel-Iran/Syria (after Iran and Syria committed troops to support Hezbollah). Those four conflicts became the Greater Mid-East War.

Then, Asia got involved when the US supported Japan and South Korea in defending against North Korea, which caused China to get dragged in, which brought Pakistan in. And the conflict in Afghanistan spilled into Pakistan, so it was involved on both fronts. Which caused the old Pakistan-India fued to spring up again.

What the textbook doesn't say is how long it would be until the fallout dies down and we're able to go back above ground again.

For the U.S. it was Dec. 7 1941. In Europe the war began with the invasion of Poland in 1939. In China they were invaded by Japan in 1941.
