Could be a texture issue. Could be a sign he wants table food. Hes not too young for table food. Try dicing carrots, cook them and let him feed himself...start with finger foods, he may just want some independance. It isnt a bad thing, just hi sway ofcommunicating, he wants what you have!!!

He doesn't want it;). All babies hit a point where they start wanting your food, not the jarred stuff. My oldest didn't get there until about a year, but my 10 month old is there now! He refuses to eat the jarred foods, and wants to feed himself.
Gerber has the "Graduates" line of foods - crackers, diced fruits/veggies, pasta, etc. Great in a pinch. Cheese, VERY well cooked veggies, soft fruits (bananas, ripe peaches, very ripe pears, blueberries, strawberries), cheerios, flaked fish, pasta, bread, etc are great. Just make sure that they are cut into pieces small enough that he doesn't choke, and large enough for him to pick up.
It's a difficult (and thankfully, rather short) stage, because it can be hard to find suitable foods that they are willing to eat. But just think, he's on his way to self-feeding! Congratulations!

There could be more to this. Watch him to see. He may just be plain tired of the taste. Is he or has he been sick lately because if so his taste buds will make the food taste different to him than usual. Also they do go through stages that he may just simply be tired of this taste and want something different. You will need to work with him on this and by getting upset with him the both of you will not get far. You will just simply get more frusterated and him too. Babies require sooooo much patience. Babies go through so many changes and if it's rough now just wait to see what's next. Hang in there and you will see by taking things more in stride and as they come you and him will learn new ways to work these situations out. Yes, he may be spitting it out on purpose but remember he is just a baby and it's different than if we were spitting our food out. Good luck to the both of you.

Bangbanks' answer is pretty good; also don't forget that he's a little guy and still learning some of the mechanics of eating (not all the wiring works yet). So a lot of times babies will thrust their tongues out as they eat. It's a reflex action that you just have to put up with for awhile. (If they don't stop doing it, it's one of the causes of overbite.)
But yeah, he may also be rebelling against taste or texture.

he is just playing
dont worry about it
he may be a bit tired when he is being fed... try feeding him a bit earlier
keep it fun and talk about silly things wh en you are feeding him to distract him from remembering his new game of spitting food out
give him a sppon to try and feed himself
but dont worry for a esecond that he is going to starve... if he is absolutely hungry he will eat... try not to make up for those missed meals though... stick to your routine
he may stop doing it soon but dont worry if it lasts a month
get a bib with a food catcher at the bottom in the meantime

It could be that he's just figured out that he CAN spit it out, and it's a fun game for him, or maybe he's coming down with something and not feeling too well, or maybe he's teething, and it hurts to chew. He could also be hitting the end of a growth spurt, so he's not as hungry as he was. Try not to get too frustrated, he's just a baby and doesn't understand that it upsets you. He won't let himself starve, but if you're really concerned, call you pediatrician.
Good luck!

Are you feeding him something new? Sometimes if it is new they will reject it. If it is something he has had, and eaten before with no problem sternly tell him NO, NO SPITTING and put the food away and wait about 20 minutes. It could also be that he is not hungry at that time so waiting may also help.

He's not hungry, and wants to play. Stop feeding him when he starts spitting it out, and wait a bit longer before trying again, like an hour.

I don't think at that early age of 11 mos your baby is purposely sptting food out. Maybe your baby doesn't like what he is eating. you didn't mention how long he keeps it in his m outh before spitting it out. There is Noo such thing as a baby purposely spitting out food. He simply isn't liking what you are giving him.
Call your Pediatrician just to make sure!! God Bless

My son started doing that all of a sudden, and I was really frustrated with him. Several days later he began running a fever and when I took him to the doctor he had tonsilitis! He wasn't swallowing because he couldn't! Boy did I feel guilty.
