because there are still stupid people willing to pay $10 to see a movie when they can wait a few months and rent the same movie for $2.

My point exactly, they shouldn't be. But we live in a country where the pretty folk get paid more than the people that actually matter. It doesn't make any sense, but unfortunetly it's just the way our economy is currently set up. Everyone goes to see movies, people that star in one of the countries' biggest industries get a slice of the pie, so to speak. I really think we should fix it, but it'll never happen. That is, until the U.S. ( or whatever your home country is ) "falls under new leadership". Which shouldn't take another couple hundred years. If ya live that long, lol.

It's simple economics. They get that kind of money because they make even more money than that for the movie studio. There are people who work harder than teachers and nurses who get paid even less.
The only way to combat that imbalance is to vote with your wallet. Don't go to movies, don't buy DVDs, don't watch movies on TV, don't watch talk shows that have them as guests, don't buy gossip magazines that talk about these people's lives, etc. If you do any of those things, then you're part of the reason they get so much money.

Not all movie stars get paid millions. Sports pays too much too. Anyway, they need those millions. They have to be able to buy that multi-million dollar home, and upkeep must be awful. Many do a lot of good with their money. They do step in to help when disaster strikes. 9/11, Katrina.
And of course many have substance abuse problems. So they genuinely need that money to support their habit.

You're confusing two issues - the monetary value of a career and the intrinsic value. The monetary value of any job is worth what people are willing to pay for it. Stars only get paid because millions of people are willing to shell out bucks at the movie theater and the video rental store. The intrinsic value of a job is what it does for you and for others.
Monetary value does not equal intrinsic value.

There are thousands of teachers and a limited number of big celebrities. Supply and demand is all. If there were only 100 teachers in the world, they would make big money.

It's not a matter of should they....it's a matter of somebody thinks they're worth it and why in the world would they turn it down. The issue with teachers and nurses is a different matter all together. It's apples and oranges.

I feel the same way about professional athletes. That money should go to doctors, nurses and teachers. They all make a difference in our lives. What difference do the actors, actresses and athletes actually make in our lives????

They shouldn't. They are all over paid. But we keep seeing their movies so they are going to keep getting paid the big bucks. Same with athletes.
