Chaos theory is the explanation for any event that is too complex to predict accurately - too many variables, too many unknowns, etc, etc. It isn't really chaotic if all of the factors are known - which, unfortunately, isn't possible in reality. Ironically, that makes the outcome unpredictable, hense, chaotic.

The Chaos Theory is the idea that what seems to be a random incident isn't actually random at all.

Take a pile of rocks for instance. If you drop those rocks, they fall, hit the surface below them, and settle into a spot. Some say it isn't predictable, but the chaos theory suggests that they land their specific spots for a reason. The reason is the result of weight, timing, currents, shapes, etc... When all is calculated and every detail is accounted for, the incident becomes a non-random incident.

On a scale of events, it is like connecting dots together with lines where the lines inevitably create a pattern.

Chaos theory represents the complex interactions between seeminly unrelated events. A simple leaf, floating down from a tree is a prime example. The intuitive logic of the fall is simple, but the mathematics required to predict, exactly, the path of the leaf are staggeringly difficult, having to take into account everything from wind velocity, to nearby movement, to the Earths rotation, and even humidity. Chaos is simply used as a term to represent a mathematical equation which is too complex to be able to computer accurately.

1. Everything is the product of feedback loops.
2. Results are very sensitive to slight changes in starting conditions.
Thats basically it.
Read "Deep Simplicity" by John Gribbin. It explains how animals get their stripes and spots, and how miraculous-looking order arises spontaneously out of chaos.

Its a theory that out of chaos comes order. So for example, the belief that out of many catastrophic events such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions, etc, came all of the order that we see on earth today. Its really a theory that comes out of evolution...if you believe in evolution.

I believe the chaos theory is something like destruction is creation, if you destroy something from that destruction new life will arise.
