Which is your favourite book of his?

Do you think that 'Decline and Fall', his first major novel, was his best one?

Which of his works would you recommend?

Dear Spanner
am sure I have read ALL E.W. production
I loved it in my youth, but now I feel he was too pesimistic, as every character in its novels loses all that is legitimaly owned
The worst: losing his son heritage in favor of his wife´s son ..who was conceived by a worthless subject he always despised
His novels are always about someone that is very badly treated by circumstances..mixed with catholiscism (one factor of self deprecation and resignation of one´s needs)
The result should be bad guys have it all
good guys allways lose
something you know from real life..or not?
There was also an homosexual component that he was in that time no to expose too openly and it was mixed in the misery of some characters

I read "The Loved One" a couple of years ago. Funny and rather dark. An impressive book. It's quite an accomplishment to take a satirical look at Hollywood and the funeral business in the same book.

Brideshead Revisited. I saw the movie with Jeremy Irons in it, and always meant to read the book.
