an Ethernet cable is the same as a LAN cable assuming you use the 10BaseT or 100BaseT or 1000BaseT network.

I assume your trying to create a network at home to share the internet connection with all the computers at your house.

LAN is a very generic term used to describe a computer network that are relatively small in size. Technically, it can be any type of network, such as Ethernet, Token Ring, etc, etc, etc. But these days, the only thing really used is Ethernet.

Ethernet can be 10 base 2, 10 base 5, 10 base T, 100 base T, etc.

Ethernet cable can be any cable that can carry signal for the above. Coax, category 3, category 5, category 5E, etc....

But again, most of the connections now are category 5, also know as 100 base T cables.

Ethernet cable is a connecting medium used in LAN.ie Local area network. The cable is used in organising the LAn.
