i just set up my first reptile home. it is small only 10 gal, and all i have in it is 2 anoles. my question is, how long should i leave the basking lamp on? should it be on 24 hours, or only a few hours a day? it is fairly warm in the room and it is by a window so they get some sunlight.

You need to turn it off at night time. Your anoles will get very active in the dark as most reptiles are nocturnal. If you want to see them at night, you can get a red light that they cant see. Make sure that you have a secondary heat source when you turn off their lamp so they dont freeze all night.

Also, be careful of putting reptiles in direct sunlight. They need those UV rays, but should be getting plenty from your basking lamp.

The best thing to do is to leave it on all night and off all day.
