My vote is for "Elementary, Dear Data" - Star Trek: The Next Generation Episode #29, and "Ship in a Bottle" - Star Trek: The Next Generation Episode #138. I think they are the best modern representation of the famous and evil James Moriarty, the always enemy of Sherlock Holmes.

There were quite a few excellent episodes. I guess if I had to pick two favorites they would be "The Inner Light" (Episode 525) and "Yesterday's Enterprise" (Episode 315). For totally different reasons.

"The Inner Light" was the one where a probe the Enterprise finds locks onto Picard and over the course of less than a 1/2 hour, Picards memory is infused with living a lifetime on a planet that's been dead for a thousand years. This episode won the 1993 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. The award was given at the World Science Fiction Convention in San Francisco. "The Inner Light" was the first television program to be so honored since 1968's Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever".

"Yesterday's Enterprise" was also very cool. I always love a good space battle! It was a neat way to bring back Tasha for one episode too. Although the resulting episodes with Denise Crosby as a Romulan were kind of weak.

Those are my 2 picks!

Because of the long run of the show, I find it hard to select a pair of favourites for the series as a whole. However, I do have my preferences for particular seasons, so hear goes:

Season 1: "The Arsenal of Freedom" (best ensemble episode of the season)
Season 2: "Contagion" (one of the better mystery episodes of the series)
Season 3: "Tin Man" (perfect Data piece as he meets his Betazoid counterpart)
Season 4: "The Nth Factor" (excellent use of hyperintellegence)
Season 5: "Cause and Effect" (just how many times can the Enterprise blow up?)
Season 6: (tie) "Relics" and "Tapestry" (the Dyson sphere could have been an episode of its own, and Picard gets to see how he could have come out)
Season 7: "The Pegasus" (best plot of the season)

These are my personal favourites. There are probably better episodes artisticly and technically, but there's a personal resonance that I have with most of these that forms my list.

My most memorable episode will be "The Measure of a Man", where Data goes on trial to determine whether he's a sentient being or just a machine. The arguments put forward by Picard and Riker makes what ST is all about. An intelligent Sci-FI show that presents humanity's perception of life, it's biases and strengths.

"Clues" is another very good episode. It goes to show that Data is indeed a sentient being and capable of bending the truth with very clever arguments and cover-ups.

Hmmmm, It's been a while since I've seen any TNG, but episodes that stick out in my mind are "The Game". Which was the episode where they had these special glasses that shot opiates into your eyes for passing a level which eventually turned into a mind control device..

Let's see, what was another classic? Oh I got it!! My absolute favorite TNG was "Perfect Mate", where the Enterprise was transporting some "precious cargo" that turned out to be this incredibly hot chick that turned into the perfect woman for whichever guy she was hanging out with at the time. Talk about sending my nerdy brain reeling!! Oh the possibilites lol :)

Man, I wish they'd make more TNG... I haven't liked a Star Trek series as much since..

I, too, loved The Inner Light with Picard hooked to a probe and going thru another's life, and this is likely my favorite story of the whole series.

Second: Well, that's harder. There are actually a few that I would consider to be among my favorites.

I tend to prefer stories which make you think, rather than just blow them up and phaser it away.

First: The Measure of a Man (where Picard must fight to keep Data from begin taken apart, and it's a great episode that discusses just what is a person)

Second: The Drumhead (prejudice taken apart)

Third: Darmok (Picard and an alien captain who speaks in metaphores must learn to communicate.)

I think my favourites were Best of Both Worlds and Time's Arrow. I didn't particularly care for the Sherlock Holmes episodes (sorry).

I don't remember episode names or numbers, but..

1) Dianna Troy has a boyfriend who is sucking the life from her, so he can remain young. She gets old and the crew has to save her...

2) The episode where Q takes Picard to show him the beginning of humanity and he says that we all started as a "little pile of goo." I love that Q, he was funny.

One is the episode where they find Scotty caught in a loop in the transporter and bring him to his "future" and he has to cope; the other is where Worf keeps going to alternate realities and in one, the Borg has almost destroyed the Enterprise and their Riker says they're not going back.

I don't know the episode numbers or names, but since I'm a fan of the original, the one with Scotty and the ones with Spock are my favorites.
