Considering Mr. Gibson's extreme Catholic (Sedevacant) upbringing by an openly anti-semitic father, I highly suspect that the alcohol revealed his true feelings.

May not be actually telling the truth but saying something that had been ingrained in him at a young age. He may have grown past his upbringing but being drunk caused him to revert to his younger teachings.
