If only one person survives who would it be and why?

if only one person was to survive it would be ivisible woman.
Thing and Human Torch would be taken out first by the xmen as being the most visibly strong. Then Mr. Fantastic would be teamed up against. While there could also be considerable loses on the xmen side while taking down the other 3 FF members, leaving only invisible woman, she is argualbly the strongest person in this fight.
She could create invisible bubbles in the Xmens hearts and cause them to explode (something that even wolverine cannot heal from - and if he could she could just suffocate him in an ivisible dome).

Actually, the Fantastic Four did battle the X-Men in a four-part mini-series around 1986. There was no clear winner. As I recall, after a short-lived battle, they joined forces.
One of the problems you run into is the question of which members of the teams are included. She-Hulk was once a member of the FF and X-Men has had countless members come and go. If you include all characters of the universe, I'd go with Cable. Technically, he's not an X-Man, but he is the most powerful telepath.

Sorry, X-Men. But the Fantastic 4 would win. If only one of them lives it would be Mr. Fantastic. Don't get me wrong, I'm as big a Nightcrawler, IceMan, and Gambit fan as there is but Reed's the man. Earth's brightest mind, plus he indestructible. Even Wolverine could be killed if his head were removed. And who better than Mr. Richards to come up with a way to do it?
Mind controll, you say? Bah! If Magneto could come up with a helmet to block his mind, Reed could come up with an easy to swallow gel-cap to block his mind.
Lets just be glad the Fantastic 4 are so noble and wouldn't get into a fight like that.

this is my line up we will make it one on one for fairness
thing vs colossus winner:thing although they are about the same strength thing has boxing training and is tougher
human torch vs iceman winner: nether they would take each other out
Invisible woman vs Jean winner: jean although the invisible woman would put up a fight but jean would get into her mind and take her out
Mr. Fantastic vs Beast winner: Mr. Fantastic they would not have a fight they would have a battle of the brain and reed would win
so fantastic four win 2-1

You want to really get comic fans into a tizzy? Ask who is smarter - Reed Richards or Henry "Beast" McCoy (in comic cannon each thinks the other is smarter - they've worked together many times and are good friends).
X-Men would kick the heck out of Fantastic 4.

Definitely the X-men. They have the numbers - while Reed is one of the, if not THE, smartest being on the planet, they'd still have to go up against the psychics, the battle-hardened, the icesters, the fliers, etc., etc.
The last ones standing would be Storm, Iceman, Wolverine, Jean Grey and Professor X, I believe.

I like both of these, but I'd think X-men since there are more of them. It would be cool to see Richards and Xavier trying to attack a problem together. I think Charles is more selfless and would scarifice himself to save others, while Reed would be so preocuupied he might not notice this as an option and not realize what was being done on his behalf.

i would say x-men win with wolverine as the soul survivor maybe others would live as well but definitely weapon X would survive no one on the fantastic four really has the ability's to kill him he heals too damn quick... schnoogins..

if its a spur of the moment fight, X-Men, they have the numbers. But if you gave the FF 1 day to perpare for the fight, and Reed knew who was going to engage in the fighting. Trust me, FF all the way, and aint no healing factor gonna save Wolvie's butt.
