First of all missing a game does not end a streak. That said, Utley will not get to 56. Every time a player hits the 30 plateau, everyone starts saying that he'll reach 56. Sure, Utley is a good player but eventually he's going to face a pitcher that he is just going to have no luck with. I think he will however break the 2B hitting streak held by Castillo with 35. I think he'll get to around 40. All it takes is one bad game to end the entire streak.

At the rate Chase Utley is going, i think he will reach the streak and set it a couple of hits past 56, hes already at 31, and there are alot of times where he just doesnt barely make it, he gets the hits not only to get one more closer to the streak, he actually helps his team in the process, and he may have to do a little more since Abreu is gone

If not for 2 great defensive plays by Cleveland 3rd baseman Ken Keltner in game 57 we would really be talking about an "unbreakable" record, because Dimaggio went on to hit in another 17 straight after the streak was broken...A 74 game hitting streak? now that would be out there...
No Utley will not break the record, yes someone will someday!

That is one record that will probably never be broken, especially when you take into consideration how fragile today's athletes are. They sit out a game if they have a stomach ache or if their toe itches. And that's a lot of games to hit safely in - it just can't be done in this day of specialization by pitchers....you have a starter, a 7th inning guy, an 8th inning guy and the closer. Should you be one of those non-fragile players - and there are a few around - you've still got a lot of obstacles Joe D. never had to face.

As a Phils fan, and a huge Utley fan, I'd love to see it, but no, I think the odds are against it. I also tend to think that no active player will do it, meaning that it won't happen for at least another 15 years or so.

I say no. They have a brutal road schedule. At Atlanta which is a pitchers ballpark, Wrigley Field, which is a pitchers ballpark, and will have to get passed Pedro, Trachsel, and Glavine twice. I don't think it will go past forty. No one will ever break Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.

I really doubt he will, I doubt in this day and age anyone will reach that level again.
