The term exotic means: not of this land, foriegner.

Basically when someone is offended is because they took it as "Hey you look like you don't belong here, foreigner!" rather than "Hey you look exotic"

I find that when I am called exotically beautiful, I feel special as if I am a green and flourished flower bloomed surrounded by a desert of ugly, dry, flowers.

Oh and I am an Exotic Dancer too!
If the word exotic insults any one, than they happen to be uneducated as the word's definition is completely different from the definition of my job.

Being called "exotic" isn't insulting. I don't think exotic plants feel humiliated and exotic animals don't feel used or abused. I've been to exotic islands, and the people that live there feel fine when I spend my tourist dollars in their places of business. The term "exotic" isn't insulting ... it's what you do with it that turns into something derogatory.

I don't know about being insulting exactly but I find it a bit of a stereotype. I'd much rather have someone take the time to know me than to just say "you're so exotic".

It's not considered insulting, it's a compliment...i love it when people tell me i'm exotic looking...it just means that you stand out from the crowd which is a good thing sometimes...

I think of exotic in the highest regards; especially since I am married to a Chinese woman.

The problem starts when people say exotic and really mean erotic. That is a definite degrading of another group.

Exotic in itself is not insulting. It merely means "different look".

It is when you combine it with "dancer" is becomes insulting. Then it means "Dancing naked"
