I work with a disabled lady who knows her alphabet, but cannot read one single word (other than her name). And, yes, she would have a good time looking at each letter and telling me what the letter means. And, she would absolutely slurp up that soup. I think that she would get more out of that alphabet soup than any scholar in the world!

I'm thinking this is definetely a psychological question. Is the full effect of alphabet soup getting a full stomach, or is it spelling out words? Only time will tell, grasshopper.

Yes, since the random floatings of alphabet soup rarely, if ever, actually spell anything, and almost everybody, even those who can't read, can recognize single letters.
