In 'my day' it was Johnny Mathis -
I was a bit disturbed, but kept buying his albums, and grooving to the message of his music, with my man. . .
I met him, and got his autograph in 1969, in NY, at the Waldorf
One of the most exciting nights of my life. . .

I am happy for them when they come out. It must be a big relief not having to hold that secret any more. I couldn't imagine keeping a secret like that and not living my life they way I want due to the fear of how society will view me! I say good for Lance!! And all the gays and lesbians of the world. As for letting them have rights I say why not? They are people too. The declaration of independance didn't have a gay clause at the end! We all as humans deserve the same rights! I also say why not let them raise kids? Why let all these kids just waste away in orphanages and foster homes when they could have loving parents willing to care for them? Who cares what their sexual orientation is? We let our teenagers of the world have children when they screw up and get pregnant and they aren't ready for a kid why not let loving stable adults have kids??? It took a long time to let african americans have the same rights as caucasians and I think that the gay revolution is right around the corner! When they ordered desegregation lots of people thought the world would end...did it? NO. This is just another hurdle that society will have to GET OVER!

I'm not as concerned with what we all think as much as I'm concerned with his family. I actually live in the town where Lance grew up and know his grandfather and a few of his cousins. I even met Lance last year at the opening of his grandfather's veteran's museum. Lance is still the same person who he was; I just hope that his family is understanding and that they don't have to face the backlash of his coming out of the closet. This is a very small town with small town values- which, while being a good thing, can also have its downside.
Personally, I was brought up with the saying, "Hate the sin, love the sinner." So I guess that I would accept Lance (or any entertainer) as the person that he is but know that I personally am opposed to that particular lifestyle. Mind you, that's not to say that you'd see me at an anti-gay rights rally or anything!! My feelings aren't that strong!

I agree with everything you said, and wouldn't care if my favorite actor or singer were gay. Unfortunately, the majority of our country doesn't see things that way, so the Utopia you're describing is not realistic. We're living in a time when there is sexism, racism, class discrimination, etc. We're on the verge of World War 3 because people in this world simply can't leave well enough alone and live in peace. There's nothing we can do but try our best to change people's minds... no easy task.

Frankly, in this day and age, I would be more surprised if they weren't.
Do you remember how so many women had a mini-heart attack when they discovered that Rock Hudson was gay? What also amazes how when its so clearly visible to us that they are gay and still we chose to believe otherwise. Lance Bass is a prime example of this. The best example of this "denial" was Liberace. For years women all over the world used to believe that it was just part of the "act."
So, at the end of it all? Who really cares!

I honestly feel the same way - for the most part. But it's simply the age old discussion of discrimination.
Honestly, by trying to prevent discrimination you just create it. For example, customers come up to me everyday complaining that my employees that are white are treating them unfairly because they're not white. They expect to be treated the same, if not better, and expect me to go out of my way to help them just because they're not white. That's practically discrimination against anyone else of a different race because I have to treat someone better than everyone else.
But enough of that.
Lance....I was in love with him when I was in middle school. It's weird that he's gay, but hey, do what you want, right?

I do not inquire about singers/actors lifestyles. I owned a nightclub in New York in the 80's and lived with an actress for two years. It took me a full year to get her out of my head after we broke up. Thank heaven I have been delivered from that sleepless lifestyle.
Now, I just buy their records or watch their movies. Nothing I hear on the news could surprise me.

NSYNC still sucks. And why did he even bother telling anyone he's gay ? It's no-ones business. And I don't really care if a person is gay or not. Why do they feel the need to make an issue of it ?

Completely indifferent.
We are all equally deserving of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If someone is more attracted to their own gender, so be it. I have friends and family that are homosexual.
I don't think that it's such a big issue in our society for a "performing artist" to come out -- but when a pro athlete admits it, there really is an uproar in the bible belt.

My fave singer is Freddie Mercury so I would be shocked if I was told he wasn`t gay. Even though I am straight, I don't think this should stop me picking Freddie as my fave singer. The music he created was fantastic and whether he was male, female, gay, straight, or whatever the music would still be great. Of course this doesn`t mean I am going to try to copy him just because I like his music.

I'll be fine with that. I mean that don't take away from why I liked them in the first place. If you stop liking someone because of their sexual preference, then you really didn't like that person any way. It's sad that we live in a society that judges people because they're gay.
