I was talking to my girl friends the other day while we all feed our babies and the topic of hair on the areola came up. I had always been very self conscious about the hair I had there. I have always plucked it and thought I was the only one plagued with this problem. Well I found out the 4 of the 5 of us had hair on our areolas that we plucked. I was amazed.

I am curious is hair on the breast that common do 4 of 5 women actually have hair there? So do you have hair around you nipples?

Guys please, no need to add your 2 cents to this conversation this one is for the ladies.

I had the hair before getting pregnant. It started to grow when I was like 20. I am 28 now. 2 of my friends had the hair grow only after getting pregnant.

If you could ask your friends and report the numbers back. I am interested to know how common this is.

Well I don't know about other women but I have hair on my areolas too. It isn't very dark or thick just enough to know it's there. I don't pluck it or anything though. The only one who sees my breasts is my fiance and he doesn't care if they are hairy. He makes fun of me sometimes when we're in bed but he's just joking and really doesn't care.

I don't have hair there. I'm actually surprised to hear about it..of course it's not like women would openly say that. Since you mentioned that you and your friends have babies, is this type of hair growth occur with women who have children? Maybe it's a hormone thing.

I don't have children (yet) but when I do and I find hair growth around my breast area..I'll at least know I'm not the only one in the world with hairy breast. LOL

I am a very fair skinned blonde and I even have hair there! Just a few stray dark ones, but they've been there since I was about 18 yrs old. If you're self-conscous, pluck 'em. My mom once told me that she thought they were to aid sensitivity when nursing, like cat's whiskers, from when we were more primitive as a species. My husband makes jokes once in a while, but I threaten to go after HIS hairy chest with the tweezers, and he shuts up pretty darn quick! ;P

I don't have hair there. I think if I did, I wouldn't pluck it. (OUCH!!! It makes me cringe just thinking of it. But, then, I am a total baby about that. I even hate tweezing my eyebrows, but I am forced to).
This does make me wonder how common this is. Did you have the hair before pregnancy? I have 2 boys, and did find that I grew a little more unwanted hair after my pregnancies.

I must be woman number 5! I have never had hair around my nipples. I am 31, mother of 2, breastfed both.

Interesting question though. I had no idea that any women were dealing with this--might be something to add to Vagina Monologues next year....

I have a few hairs but they're not too bad. I just pull them out. I think it's pretty common with women who are of Mediterranean descent, such as Italian, Middle Eastern, etc.

Ok, I know that this sounds funny, But I had to check to see if I had some.. And nothing. I had never heard of this before and I have 4 children, 3 of whom I breasfed. so I am unsure about this. I am going to ask my OB/GYN the next time I am in there to see him.

I have and I have to wonder if it isn't a result of too much testosterone! I have had them since I started my monthly at age 11 yrs. I know it wasn't a result of pregnancy or nursing. I thought I was the only one in the world who had this problem. Thanks for sharing, it makes me feel better and I'm sure others do too.
