Aside from the fact that the movie satirizes educational institutions, it is a story of sacrifice, with Donnie as the Christlike figure, choosing (or perhaps fated) to sacrifice his life in order to prevent the world from coming to an end. Yes, there's time travel, comedy, existential themes, paradoxes that are never explained, and many interpretations, but that's what creates the fascination with this film, and the desire to watch it over and over again.

One of my fav movies...I thought the movie had undertones of sacrifice, media manipulation, fate, confronting death, emotional attachment, parental bias & peoples' true intentions...One of my fav characters was Noah Wyle's character, it was very interesting to see him in this different role.

Another fav character was the child pornographer, played by Patrick Swayze, just a great performance, that truly delved deeply into a lie & the outcome of the facade. A great movie overall.
