Yeah, I was rushed into using tampons myself with the 6th grade band trip to a waterpark...
If you're scared/tense, it won't work. You need to be relaxed. When I was practicing in the days before the trip, I played my favorite cassette (haha, cassettes!) to help me be more calm. So number 1, relax.
Secondly, use a plastic applicator if at all possible. I had to use a cardboard applicator ONCE in my entire life, and I will never do it again if I can help it. The plastic is very smooth and easy to insert (try Playtex "Gentle Glide"). If it's too dry, put a little water/water based lubricant (ask your mom) on the outside. Vaseline isn't a good idea because the oil in it can give you an infection.
Third, try every position you can think of to put it in until you find the easiest one for you. Personally, I still haven't figured out the 'one foot on the toilet seat' bit. Just sitting on the toilet works great for me. Insert the tampon at an angle and GO SLOW. It will probably feel a little weird or uncomfortable, but it shouldn't hurt. Breath slowly and deeply and don't panic.
If all else fails, ask a girl that you trust, like your mom, an aunt, or an older sister or friend. It's nothing to be embarrassed about because they all have periods too. We've all been scared when starting to use tampons and stuff, and I'm sure they would be happy to help you.
Good luck!

First, buy a brand which has a plastic applicator, not a cardboard one. That makes things much easier. My favourite brand personally is Tampax compax.
Try to find ones which are designed for lighter days when you're just starting out. Yes, you'll probably have to change it more often, but they're very small so easiest to learn with.
When you're going to put one in, you have to relax. Get into a position where it will be easiest - most people suggest sitting on the toilet with your legs wide apart, or putting one foot on the edge of the bath. Personally, I find the easiest way is to crouch down with my knees wide apart.
Take the tampon in your right hand (assuming you're right handed). Spread the labia with your left hand and gently insert the tampon into the vagina. Push it in gently until the fingers of your right hand are touching the skin. That's the most important part - it has to be far enough in or it will be uncomfortable. If you're having trouble getting it in, try pushing slightly to one side or the other, or slightly rotating the tampon as you push it in. If you find it a bit dry going in, you could try using a bit of vaseline on the tip of the tampon.
Once the fingers of your right hand are touching the skin, use your left hand to push the applicator in all the way, as far as it goes - again, if you feel a bit of resistance try pushing slightly to one side or the other, then withdraw the applicator and the tampon should be in place.
If the tampon is in the right place, you won't be able to feel it inside you at all. It's difficult to get the hang of at first, but just keep trying, I promise you it's worth it!!! No more messy pads, no more gushing of blood when you sneeze or move position.......tampons are definitely the way to go!!! Good luck!

Try Playtex, they go in a lot easier. What you want to do is put it in at an angle and have your fingers on the ribbed area of the tampon. Put in in until your fingers touch your body. Then you want to push the plunger in and pull the rest out. You should be left with no discomfort and a string. If you still feel discomfort then your body isnt ready for tampons or you should consult your doctor and ask him or her what they think you should do. It took me a while to get used to tampons, trust me you are not alone. Good luck!

Just relax. Try a plastic aplicator. I like Playtex gentil glide or tampax pearl. Relax and if you look at the diagrams in the box it will really help you figured out the angle. and just relax. put it in and see if the angle feels right. but I can't stress this enough relax. Once you get it, it'll be easier each time. So don't worry because you will get it eventually. Good luck.
God bless

Get a plastic applicator tampon like Playtex Gentle Glide. Any cardboard applicator has edges that can cause abrasions (which suck). Make sure that you insert the applicator at an angle. If it doesn't feel right, remove it. Practice is the only real way to develop a method that feels right for you.

One: maybe try pads before you try tampons. And two: maybe you ask your mom for help. I know it may be embarassing but she's your best bet. If not try asking an older sister if u have one. I'm ur age so I kow exactly what your going through because when I got my period. As weird as this may sound maybe ask a friend if you kow one that got her period as well. I hope I helped! Have fun at the fair, dude!

welll hun, many women have many opinions. tampons are not a good thing to use at all not only for tss but you get your period for many reasons and one is to flush you out, out being the key word, if you are wearing a tampon you are not allowing your body to flush out all bad bacteria and possible stripping it of some good bacteria. althought for a very little time wearing one isnt all that bad maybe try changing positionms while you are inserting the tampon and be very slow no need to rush it and hurt yourself. every womens vagina is different and doesnt insert the same way. try lying on the floor try squating try a few different ways to position your body that is most comfortabel to you if you MUST wear one!! good luck hun.

relax , relax, relax. If your muscles are tight cause you're scared it's not gonna happen, also try a comfortable position like rising up one of your legs and last but not least, do it gently and slowly, if you do it too quick you'll probably tense up again. Good luck! I don't remember much now but I think I could do it on my third try.:)

Here is a great page for helping you:

It is recommend to use a pantyliner or small pad, as they do tend to leak without you knowing.
Good luck!
