But it is a very good idea to check in with local guides before planning a visit around "normal" animal migration schedules in East Africa these days. The effects of global warming are very dramatic in the equatorial regions. When I was in Kenya a few years ago, the rains were badly off normal schedule... it kept raining and raining and raining, long after the normal closure to rainy season. The effects on game and local agriculture were devastating, contributing to the already severe famine conditions in parts of Kenya ( Isiolo broke my heart... the poverty and starvation and cholera... just horrific).

Even if Al Gore didn't really invent the internet.... he's sure got one inconvenient truth right.

the animals doesn't migrate to Mara river. they do cross it twice a year. once from Serengeti in Tanzania on their way to Mara Kenya and than back.
