I hate that too. You have to pay because your risking your life. Not anyone esle in the car(unless your driving recklessly)will be harmed cuz you wanna leave a seatbelt off. You shouldn't have to pay for that. Excellent observation.

In many places bikers do have to wear a helmet legally. The reason for both this and seatbelt laws is due to the costs of insurance, if someone hits you and you get hurt because of not wearing a seatbelt, the insurance company pays. They don't want to because you couldn't wear a seatbelt.

Because seat belt laws have gotten really strict for some reason, and maybe they just don't care about the bikers. I live in South Dakota, and we have pretty strict laws as far as seat belts are concerned yet we host a motorcycle rally every year that draws hundreds of thousands of bikers. The weird thing is that South Dakota doesn't have helmet laws. I don't get it but that is the way it is and I can't change it myself.

depends on which state you live in. In Michigan... it's a law for bikers to wear helmets.
and actually, if someone behind you isn't wearing a seatbelt and you get into a nasty crash their weight plus the magnitude of the crash can really screw up the person in the seat in front.

In CA, bikers have to wear helmuts.
To answer your question, the state does not want to pay for underinsured motorist victims. So, since statistics show people who wear seatbelts usually suffer less injury, the state requires everyong wears seatbelts.
Purely economical, not personal.

The law is the law. In some states you do have to wear a helmet.
Better question, Why would you not want to wear your seatbelt?

seatbelts save lives in cars - helmets are used to scoop up the leftovers after a good motorcycle wreck.

Because Ralph Nader didnt get that far, he is the one responsible for most seat belt laws.
I think it is wrong for motorcyclists not to wear a helmet. It is a lot more dangerous.
It is also not fair that most school buses do not have seat belts, if it is a law to wear seat belts, buses should have them too.
