this one has even the Admins shaking their heads and telling me to trash and redownload...

Please follow this path. click on messenger> my contact details> make changes in ur nickname box> keep other boxes empty> save and close. It will solve ur problem.
If u r having yahoo 360 also. Then u will hv to do the following also. Follow this path. Open ur messenger window> contacts> my profile> click on ur ID> edit>it will take u to ur 360 page> click settings> it will take u to basic info> make changes in Name and Nick Name as u need> make changes in Yahoo Identity display> save.

check under messenger, my contact details. Is your info listed there? If so, you may want to delete it. Then it shouldn't send out your personal info anymore.
