I know..I'm grasping at straws for a "different" kind of question than we've been anwering lately. I'd like to read some answers with some thought. I mean how much thought goes into..."he's hot"..he's a "cutie" .."I love ?"..."he's gay".."he's a hot head" etc.

Let's talk NASCAR..and QUALITLY of the drivers...etc.

OK...YOU'RE HIRING A NEW DRIVER....
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I would look for someone who knows what they are doing. Obviously the need to know how to drive fast and control the car.
I'd also like to see a driver who knows or has the ability to learn more.. ya know? I mean, drafting, passing (esp on places likje the one groove tracks) and when the car is handling like crap to be able to tell the team how and why..and such? It's hard to fix a car when you don't know what's wrong with it. It's like saying this is broke...fix it. Well what is broke?? I mean, I don't think they'd have to know all the technicalitys, but at least a little..
I would say that they just have to show the ability to learn...and not necessarily know everything already.
I'd also need someone with a good attitude. Now, I'm not talking that needs to be camera ready all the time, but someone who can work with the team, and appreciate the team and where they come from. I would want them to have respect for the sport and the fans and such.. I wouldn't want a mindless robot of a driver, but I don't want someone who thinks the sun and moon rise on them.
Definitely couldn't deal with a money hungry driver either. But would need a driver that is hungry for the win. You can't put a price on passion and determination..
Can I pick a butt-ugly **** driver just so they can't say.. I like him cuz he's cute, LOL!! No, okay.. You know what I'm getting at. I would want a driver that gives a darn what their hair looks like on race day..

Well, first of all, I want to see his background, where he has placed in the past, what he has driven and then I want to know about him as a person. Representing a team is more than just driving. You have to be a businessman, be good with people and your sponsors, be able to deal with the press, stay out of trouble with the law, and then in some cases, you have to be a politician as well. You have to be able to handle your fans and pressure put on you by the media, the fans and NASCAR.
He has to have passion, be aggressive on the track, not be afraid to take chances to win and he has to know how to handle himself on and off the track. I expect he/she would have a temper too! The driver better know how to stand up to me when I get a hair up my ***! A winning smile is always nice but not necessary! I want a driver not a model! Hopefully, Smoke would take him/ her under his wing and teach him a few things that are necessary to handle what's ahead.
Beyond that it's driving ability. Drivers are multitalented!

Maybe someone who not only can handle the car well, but knows what's going on under the hood too. I WOULD NEVER hire a driver just because his daddy was a driver too.

I'd probably hire a rookie because in their youth they take more chances, like they aren't scared yet, and the older racers are more cautious, the whole idea of racing is about chance, like newman when he started, sadler, biffle, johnson and edwards. awesome drivers. but better when they first started though i am a mark martin fan and will be till he's gone
