I keep the thermostat at seventy seven to save electricity. I changed the filter two weeks ago and I cleaned the outside unit 6 weeks ago with a solvent and pressure with a hose spray.. My house is 1240 sq feet and the a/c unit was updated in 1995.

If your A/C is cycling and keeping up with the temperature outside and your comfortable inside, everything is running good. Change the filter and check it at least once a month and keep your outside unit clean. Remember, the cleaner you keep your unit outside, and change your filter when it's dirty, the system will run efficient for you . Not to many people do what you do and I am glad that you take interest in what you do.

You are doing everything right. Just make sure you change your filter once a month so it doesn't get too dirty. When they get dirty, it takes more energy to filter the air through, so your bill will be higher.

You might want to think about upping the temp to 78 ot 79 overnight and running ceiling fans or sleeping in lighter clothing. This will also help reduce your energy bill, since that would be 8 to 10 hours of the day.

Its not ok for your checking account but A/Cs are made to work. Here in Nebraska I been running all the time too. But there was a fire here last week when the outside unit fan malfunctioned started a fire and burned down a trailer house with 4 people inside. But something like that probably doesn't happen much.

I was born in Oklahoma 61 years ago. Oklahoma is like that every summer. I kept my a/c on 24/7 during the worst of it from mid-May to mid-September. So what you're experiencing is typical Sooner weather. Your only remedy other than running the a/c is to move someplace cooler.

You should "let it chill" every 48 hours or so by turning it off for at least a half an hour. I've been doing that for 20 plus years and have never had a problem unlike friends who run 24/7.

Yes so long as it is still putting out air and doesn't appear to be freezing up it is fine. Except on your Electric bill. I used to live in OKC and now Live in Plano, TX.
