very VERY painful
crutches are hard to walk on too!

At the time, it feels like someone is bending your foot the wrong way and won't stop. I've broken my right one twice. Once its set in a cast, it is no longer noticeable. The problem is the swelling makes it worse, so the sooner you can get off the ankle, stablize it, and get the swelling managed or numbed, the less stressful it is.

I had a fractured ankle once. They put a cast on my entire leg. It was very cumbersome and uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I could not drive. Once I got use to the crutches, I was able to get around better. For trips to places like the zoo, I had to use a wheel chair.
I have no after effects. The healing was complete.

Sit down on the ground, lay your ankle over onto its side, have a friend run over your foot with his car and you'll be able to know first hand. I suspect it would really hurt...

Very painful. Everytime you go to do anything you feel like a crippled person. Then the other leg starts hurting because you are favoring the hurt leg.

It sucks ,I shattered all three bones in mine. 8 weeks in a cast and 7 in a walking cast.Jeesh I hope I don't do that again.

Well from my experience, it was painfull, itchy, irritating, and having a bath/shower was not a fun experience, and eventually the cast started to cut me on the top of my toes. (it was fiberglass).
