Just Pray and believe. My sister was born 3 months early and weighed 2 pounds. She lost down to 1/2 a pound at one time. She was in the hospital for 88 days and now she is a very happy healthy 13 year old. So honey, I will say again PRAY, PRAY and PRAY. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Feel free to email me if you need someone to talk to about everything that is going on. I will be glad to talk to you and help you go through everything.

Don't give up hope! I have a family member whose son Paul was born weighing only 1 lb, 7 oz, and today he is a healthy, happy, thriving 3 year old. He is still smaller than the other children his age, but he has no developmental delays at this age (he did have some for the first 2 years, and then caught up). He is actually a March of Dimes ambassador today, and his mother is very active with that organization now.
Paul was hospitalized until he hit 5 lbs, which was, I believe 4 months... there was a time when the outlook for a child born that small would have been terrible, but medical technology has really made amazing advances. While it's still an uphill struggle, children this small CAN and DO survive. The most critical time will be when baby is allowed to try breathing on his own, and of course the first few days after delivery.
Try to be strong for your sister, and be as supportive as you can. It's got to be devestating for her, and she needs someone to be optimistic, even if she finds it hard to be that way herself. And don't forget that it's ok to love that baby, even if, in the end, he (she?) is here only a short time. Don't let fear prevent bonding.
If you want to see pictures of baby Paul in NICU and after, feel free to email me. Miracle babies are born every day!

My little niece was born Feb. 14, 2006. She was 13 weeks early. She was 2lb.1oz and dropped to 1 lb.12 oz. before she started gaining weight. She had to stay in the hospital for 2 months, but she will develop over the next couple years as if she were born on time. She is a beautiful, healthy baby girl and her doctors don't anticipate any problems down the road.

My step brother was born at 1 pound 3 ounces. He is now 5 years old. He has problems with his lungs, liver and kidneys. We all knew the chances of him surviving were slim, but he ended up surviving, and is an awesome little kid.
Good luck with everything!

Yes this baby has a chance of survival. My daughter weighed 2 lbs 10 oz at birth. She is doing very well now. There were 14 and15 oz babies in the NICU that survived. Pray. It works.

That is a very small baby; I had a friend who's daughter was 2 lbs 2 oz and survived. I don't think she had any health issues, but alot of preemies do. Keep your fingers crossed.

I had a 28 weeker, and he is now 4 yrs old and in the 90% in hight and weight! You have to PRAY! I know God will prevail here. Another thing to do is talk to the NICU! They will give you all the information that you are going to need, and let that baby know that you love them!

I watch many baby shows where preemies (usually multiples) come out that small and live to be healthy.
Unfortunately I see baby shows where they don't.
It truly depends on if the baby is strong enough to fight or not. I hope so.
Congratulations and good luck to your sister, I am sorry to hear the baby was so anxious to come into the world.
