Koffi Annan resembles Barney Fife when he says the violence in Lebanon should stop. Grow some balls and demand that it stop, or get a coalition in there to stop BOTH factions. I don't think the phrase "Stop, or I'll say stop again" is working very well. The should be called the UN Humanitarian Council. Please don't say that the US is stopping this. If the majority of the Council supported action right now, it could be stopped. This is grandstanding at its best!

You really don't get it, do you? Certain countries don't want the UN to work, so they 'sabotage' it continuously, in order to impose their wills. Nearly 140 UN resolutions have been passed ordering Israel to return occupied lands, which they, with the backing of 'Big Brother', have wiped their *sses with.
Big Brother, the Superpower, doesn't take the slightest notice of what goes on at the UN, so how do you expect them to be effective?

The UN did the exact same BS in Iraq, There doing it with IRAN and N Korea. The UN is a JOKE and the security council is pratically Null and void with China and Russia on one side and the US on the other each Vetoing the others proposals. The UN couldn't stop the violence in the Middle east if Both side ran out of ammo and Aliens abducted them all.

If you haven't noticed, the US pretty much controls the UN completely since it is one of the founding members of it, and it supplies alot of money to keep it running. So until the US really wants to intervene, then the UN won't.

You assume there is good reason to stop it. Sometimes things need to play out or they will only get worse. Perhaps the previous cease fires only gave hezboallah time to re-arm.
