when you fill out the w2 claim yourself as "1" in the dependant collumn. I'm assuming your also single. If you make 5k go to your tax person and they will either tell you you don't have to file or that your getting something back! (like ~$100 or something)
Good luck on your job hunt.
And if you work for tips, report the tips.

In Canada, nothing. If you earn less than ~$11,000 you don't have to pay income tax. When you start your job you'll be given tax forms to fill out, make sure to check that box that says your total annual income will be less than your total deductible amount. Then they won't take tax off in the first place. Otherwise, they'll take off the taxes and you'll have to file a return to get them back.

I'm not an accountant but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. I f you earn over $600.00 dollars, you must report it. Usually the person who paid you will report it under your SSN. Also, you can use 20% as a rough estimate. It depends on how many dependents you claim and many more things that I don't know. I hope this helps.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I don't think you would even have to file a tax form.
