It's necessary. No one should be working a full time job and living below the poverty line and at current rates, there are lots of people doing that.
A lot of people are going to say that raising the minimum wage will increase prices...I don't think so. I think that this is just something that powerful corporate lobbyists have made up to prevent the rise. There have been a few studies on Walmart, just as an example, that showed that the company could raise employee wages and provide health care and the prices would not go up.

I haven't worked for the minimum wage in decades, but I'm for it. Many businesses (even some that can easily afford to pay entry-level personnel a living wage) will not increase their base pay without government prompting, in spite of inflation .
I'm not happy about the estate tax rider to the bill, but if the little guy gets even a bit more for their work I suppose it is an acceptable compromise, particularly in light of the tremendous increases in the working poor's potential expenditures just to live (namely transport fuel and the corresponding increases in everything trucked).

I think its about time. I, fortunately, dont depend on a minimum wage job, but I cannot imagine (!!!) having to raise my children on $5.15/hour. It is no wonder that people cant get out of poverty. With the cost of living going up every year, as well as the cost of gasoline going up each day, imagine working 40+ hours/week trying to make it. My hat's off to those people. They have ALOT more character than most (including me).
