How come american society has not started a backlash against people who drive HUGE vehicles. I see thousands of people everyday in their big suv's alone. Just one person buring all that gas. Lets start a program to shame those driving such vehicles and start saving oil.

It doesn't matter if you can afford it or not. YOU are driving up the price of gas for EVERYONE. My mother has to decide if she wants to eat, or go to work every single month. I'm SICK of it.

I agree with you, I HATE SUV's. They have no real good purpose. They are not good in the snow. They are not useful and they are twice as likely to flip over in an accident. They are gas hogs and look like crap. I actually feel sorry for the sucker that bought it. 90% of the people who have SUV's could have a station wagon and get a lot better gas milage, even a mini van gets better gas milage than an SUV.

I think Pancake's answer is a typical attitude of many SUV drivers. It's really not their fault. American society has valued "bigger and better" since the Plantation era. It's going to take more than a little shame to turn that attitude around, unfortunately. Fuel-saving or hybrid cars have to be cool, a fashion statement, the new "it" thing for people to give up their SUVs. Sad but true: lots of people care more about their image than they do about their wallets, the environment, or even the political implications. But like the second poster said, some folks just can't afford something else just yet. No shame in that. Hey, let's get a bunch of movie stars to buy Hybrids and THEN we'll have something!

My extended cab pick up truck doesn't use that much gas at all. I can drive back & forth to work 16 miles one way, on a half a tank of gas all week long. I put freeway miles on it, which is good for my truck, good for me, I get well over 22 mpg. There is no way I'm driving a shi t box for transportation. I have 3 LARGE dogs; & I transport my 2 companion parrots from time to time, and their accessories. My truck is 11 years old, I maintain it with oil changes every 3 mos or 3,000 miles, plus regular normal maintenance. Are you going to stop changing your oil just to save on oil? Let's here it for the cry baby. First, let me tell you, that I will still have my truck long after you run your little go cart into the ground, as small cars have small parts & they wear out much faster! I would be embarrassed to drive anything else than my pickup truck. It's the idiot president you voted for, he is padding his pockets along with the Cheney's. If that's not enough, check out who is allowing Monsanto to put chemicals, preservatives, & additives into your food, all for profits, all for the money! go to http://www.organicconsumers.org So shame on YOU! I hope you stay out of my way & don't do 30 mph in the fast lane! You cause others to brake which uses up the gas your worried about! Your idea to shame people is stupid, and premeditated ignorance. Go out and do something for a purpose, for a reason! Fight the FDA, FTC & Monsanto, the drug industry that is killing people. As our president is only a temporary fool. You can't go against people that choose to drive what they can afford, as my truck and big cars have been bought & paid for. Don't shame your neighbor, do something with a purpose & reason & go up against the people running the show!

I drive a big SUV, instead of me being ashamed the oil companies and CEO'S should be, why don't we as a Nation boycott one giant oil company at a time for a week, we just won't buy gas from that company for a week and lets see if they boast of their huge profits with gas prices so shamefully high

I live in the North, and it snows here. SUV is the way to go...sure gas is high, but it can always get worse.....with the 2 nutjobs running Venezuela and Iran you don't know what is going to happen next.

justmy...have you driven anything with 4 wheel drive? I wouldn't drive anything else in the winter...when you got to get to work and there is 2 ft of snow...you know the difference.

We have a Mercedes Suv...hate us all you want but we can afford the gas and it is very safe for the kids and I in the winter time....plus we travel and its convienient for us...I think there are other causes more important to fight for...SUV's isn't one of them...I like to help Kids and Adults with Cancer....research for a cure...those types of things are tops on my list.

Why don't you get a job and help your mother instead of looking for a hand-out? Sure start an organization and get people to send you money to support it or buy gas with. Sorry it's a nogo here.
