The thing is that if you are using windows 98. I doubt that you would have a fast enough computer to burn a disk.
From my experience even on a Pentium 3 computer using Windows XP it's not fast enough to burn a CD properly, and will start failing.
If your computer is old I doubt that would have a burner too unless you actually bought one recently. Also the power supply on the older computers isn't strong enough to handle a newer type of dvd/cd burner. If it's external I doubt would get it running too since Win98 has alot of problems with USB.
There is a good reason why win98 is obsolete. It is 8 years old for goodness sakes. If you want you can try to find a really really old version of easy cd creator or Nero burning rom in the shops, but I don't know if you can get it running still..
Best of luck.

If you are burning audio CDs then WMP9 should do it, my Audio Burner of preference is iTunes. But that is just personal preference.
If you are looking to backup files then the first software I would recommend is Nero. It is a very intuitive interface and there should be a version available for Windows 98. It should retail for $20-50.
I also did a search for a solution to your problem. I came up with a program called "Sun CD & Dvd Burner". It looks like it has a nice interface (similar to Nero), and is FREE. Again, it SHOULD run on Windows 98, but I cannot be certain.
I have personally burned CDs from Windows 98 and it worked fine. I had a Sony CD Burner which came with its own software, and burned CDs just fine. If your burner starts burning incorrectly then you should simply turn down the write speed. This will usually fix that problem.
I hope this helps!

By you saying the disk thing where you burn it in, I take it you either have a cd-burner, or you think you have one. But what ever the case is, you need a cd-burner drive, and a program like Easy CD Creator 5 or Nero to burn a cd.

Forget Windows Media. Google Nero and get the trial version to try. It is the best and easy to use.
