There is a ONE child policy in China. Because of overpopulation the Chinese government instituted a 1 child per couple law. If a couple has a second child there is a very hefty fine. I have some friends that had a second child and it cost them nearly everything they had.

In some respects it's a good idea, in another respect, it hasn't worked very well. First, it HAS reduced the population and eased the economy of China a bit. However, the Chinese want to carry on their family name, so sons are very much desired. It's so desireble that most female babies are killed at birth so the parents can try again for a son. Last I heard there are something like 7 men for every woman in China.

The policy is in China. A family is suppose to only have 2 children. It is to reduce the rapid population explosion but it is not doing that. The people who do not want girls for their choice of 2 children are having children anyway and placing them at the steps of orphanages. It is a crime to do this. A picture of the baby is placed in the newspaper for the baby's mother to come forward but they don't. This is one market however for Americans wishing to adopt children when they can''t find a source here in the U.S. I know people who have adopted from China. What happens 20-30 years from now when there is a shortage of women to produce children?

some countries put a limit on how many children families can have usually to help keep population down. China for instance, used to fine people for having more than one child, thats why so many people adopt Chinese babies, because there are so many unwanted children.
