Not sure what you mean. It replaces Windows XP. If you want to know if it is "backwards compatible" (i.e. programs from XP will work on Vista) then yes.

Vista will completly overwrite Windows XP as Vista is the brand new operating system - but if you mean will you be able to run Windows XP programs on Vista then yes. Windows XP currently has a program compatibility wizard which lets older programs designed to run on Windows 95, Windows 98 and the Milleniem run on Windows XP, I haven't read anything that Microsoft has removed this feature so Vista should have a program compatibility wizard.

i hope that helps

Window Vista is an improved version of window xp, just like xp was an improved version of wondow 2000 or window 1998. If I am working on a pc that runs on window 98 and send you a file on your window xp pc of course you can open that file as long as you have the same software that created that file, so yes they are all made compatible with each other if this is what you meant, but also you might meant whether you can actually install vista beta on your pc currently running on xp, the answer most probably be yes but not as fast as no doubt vista will require a lot more resources, like graphic, sound, processor, etc. etc. This is exactly how microsoft collaborate with pc making companies to phase out older pc's and keep you always on your toes and get your money off of you for a new PC. Its becoming like a competition not only for the sellers but also for the buyers. Oh my friend has a window vista pc and runs fast ok then let me sell mine for a few bucks and buy one just like his or even better than his.
But perhaps you meant the softwares CD's you currently have which are compatible with XP would they be compatible with vista??, most probably they will say not, just like window 98 software CD's are not compatible with xp but they still install with some functions possibly not working etc.
They want to bring a whole new O.S. with all associated products like new versions of your old softwares (a little improved), so they can make more money. Hope you got your answer.

The software ought to be compatible, but if you want to know if your XP computer will run Vista, then you need to check Microsoft's website as the minimum requirements are there.

Windows Vista will replace windows XP.

Vista is going to be much more visually attractive and require much more resources to run. Chances are that if you want to run Vista to its fullest potential then you will have to buy a new computer. Kinda sucks...

Depends on your computer's system! If not mistaken, those whose support Windows Xp's system will also support Vista!

Vista will be a successor to both versions of XP. It's still in beta.
