Why do other musicians hate bass players
is it because most play by ear

honestly, i think it's because bass players tend to be "obnoxious"
no offence.... i play bass...i know a few other bass players...all of the bass players i can name qualify as obnoxious in some way.
some musicans think bass players have the "easy" part, or don't really know what they're doing. and in some cases that's true.
on the other hand, i know a few bass player that write really intense bass lines and are very technical.
and people like to generalize...

I've never heard this--on the contrary, I've always heard that the bass player is cool. I've also heard a lot of musicians talk about how much they like Flea. Hard to say! Good luck finding the real answer to this question.

As much as I don't like to... I assume that you are a bass player...
and you are having issues with other musicians...
It might be because they don't like your playing...
I have played guitar since I was 12 (now 37) and I have never seen any particular instrument discriminated against. (only people)

Let's face it, the bass player is usually the worst musician and is only in the band because the bass is the lamest, easiest instrument to play. Of course there are exceptions (Flea, Mike Dirnt, Paul McCartney...and I guy we know named Gabe), but you're not one of them.

well being a female bass player the only people i usually get **** off are female musicians, the guys are really cool and most of them say that they're surprised that a girl can play (don't know how to take that comment sometimes though) but it's usually the female who can be quite bitchy..., well, apart from the donnas, lol...

becuz they're jealous that bass players have the easy part and they have to put WORK into their music... psshh... itz just stupid, and i sure don't hate bass players! cuz bass players work just as hard to learn new stuff!! and they rock!!!!!
