I want to know if any of you boil your underwear. There is a girl here from Korea and she routinly boiles her underwear on our shared kitchen stove.....

i refuse to cook there now

I'm SO grossed out. Is this a cultural thing or do some of you really boil your underwear???????????

Thanks

It is funny and gross - but most likely something that was taught her a long time ago - maybe you could give her a pot for panties only or something along that line... really you don't need to worry because if she is boiling them then everything should be really clean after and perfectly useable... rofl

It may be a cultural thing. I remember my mother boiling my fathers socks and some of his undergarments in a porceline pan on the stove. She was Italian, (my father also) from what was called the "old country", pertaining to Italy. She did use bleach too. Amazingly, the clothes came out extremely white and clean. I really never knew why she did this, but I guess it was something she learned from her growing up. The pan she used was strickly for that purpose only

Ick. I had a Korean roommate and she never boiled her underwear! But tell you what, just make sure she always uses a designated Underwear-Boiling Pot, and you can continue to use the stove with your own pots and pans. If she won't use just the D U-B Pot, buy your own pot and keep it under lock and key when you're not using it. And once again, Ick. (However, if it's really boiled, it should be safe enough to use even the D U-B Pot to cook food in; but the thought is nauseating.)

lmao. no i wash my underwear in a washing maching like all normal girls out there. maybe that's how they purify/wash their underwear in korea or something, you know to make sure all the germs are killed. i'm vietnamese and would never do that. viet girls don't boil their underwear in vietnam. strange korean that girl is. lol and i suggest you get a new stove or you'll be living off microwaved dinners and take-out!

I've never heard of that...We use washing machines. Oh my goodness, I hope she doesn't use the pot she boils underwear in to cook with too.

lmfao HAHAHAHAH maybe she is trying to kill bacteria - but boiling your underwear is a little extrem - tell her to try washing them in the washer with a half cup of BLEACH that always does the trick - also try to see why she boil her underwear - it could be the way she was taught

very weird

No never...

however i do wash delicates with very hot water in the sink... never on the oven tho- that could be dangerous... why doesnt she just boil water then pour it onto the panties in a bowl or sink and let it soak...

I think it is cultural. You need to tell her that the stuff we wash with kills all the stuff the boiling kills so she doesn't need to work so hard. In her country it is likely necessary to keep clothing germ free.

can't say for sure but I can say If I grew up washing in dirty water as I am guessing she might I would boil the water first.
I would say there are more bugs in dirty water than dirty underwear
