If a leopard gecko got out of his cage, he would be active in the day and hide under something at night. So try to get down to his level and look at night (Since he will not be running around) and look under beds, tables, or other hiding places.
As for dropping him, depends on how high, the younger ones run fast the older ones run kinda fast. Just don't grab the tail of a leo it will come off in your hand! (Then it still moves around and is gross)

My friend's leopard gecko recently escaped and a few days after he went missing she found him sitting in her closet on top of a warm electrical device. Most likely he will seek out warmth. If he goes missing just keep in mind that they can go two weeks without food so you've got a max of two weeks to find him. Leopard geckos are pretty mellow but can move quickly when they get scared. Also, for when you are holding your gecko, you should keep in mind that leopard geckos do not have an inborn fear of falling, so make sure to keep him safe.

Depends. I've seen a girl hold one at the pet store and he ran right off of her hand. When he hit the floor, he didn't run. That doesn't mean they wont run. Leopard geckos are very skiddish when they're young. I would recommend holding them in the cage or very near the cage until he reaches a good size where you can handle him and trust him more.

depends. Young ones are spazzy and if it hits the ground there's a good chance he'll run for cover pretty fast, but if you're quick you could catch him... The older they are and the more they learn to trust you the slower they'll be. I've sat with some in my lap on the floor before and they'd just fall off my leg and casually explore around me. If they get spooked they can move pretty fast though.

I've never seen a gecko run so I don't know. but what i do know is if you want to catch something, it's easiest to corner it.
