My husband will soon be promoted within his company, and we could be asked to go virtually anywhere in the continental US. We have been comparing statistics like cost of living, etc, out of several websites, but those numbers do not tell the whole story.
If you could answer by personal experience, even better. We have two children under 10.

Only one I can think of is New Orleans-- or any city that is
likely to get washed away by a hurricane.

well, i've lived all childhood in Naples, Florida. I'm now in college in Canada, but boy do i miss that place.
Before i get to the good sides, here's the downside: houses are not that cheap. For a four bedroom house, be prepared to pay about 300,000 on average
the good sides: probably the most pristine beaches in the world. the sand is marvelous, fine dining, and the works. If you are into nature, the county is fairly young (40-50 years), so there are still a lot of trees
i'm going to tell you this. I am now attending the University of Toronto, one of the top unviersities in the world, yet my elementary school was more advanced and had more technology than most of my classes
no joke. awesome schools, awesome recreation. It's so rare to hear of a crime on the news. Any little thing becomes like big town news (yes, it's that quiet)
well, i could go on and on, but you can try these links: http://www.naples-florida.com/ or http://www.explorenaples.com/
and don't be worrying about hurricanes, all new houses are now built to withstand category 4-5 max winds and flooding!

New Orleans. I spent a lot of time there with my previous job. Way too much crime and drug use. People there steal anything they can, it's corrupt at just about all levels, and just about everyone there now is on welfare. Definitely not a place I would want to be now or ever.

I would not want to live in Springhill, Florida again. I lived there when I was in high school-didn't like it and felt really excluded(like an outsider). You want to make sure that your kids will have activities around your neighborhood and that the area is safe. Good luck.

I would stay out of major cities, and Louisiana, Utah. A middle sized city with nice communities.

Philadelphia. Ridiculous city wage tax, lousy schools, lousy city services.
