You land, and the first thing you go through is Immigration. You present them with your passport, they give you the once over, and may or may not ask you questions depending on how suspicious you act, look, etc. Do NOT be surprised if they grill you a bit even if you look like a choirgirl, sometimes they profile a specific group. Most likely though the time it will take from handing the passport over to getting it back will be like 30 seconds. PS Don't wear sunglasses, take them off.
After that, you go claim your bags. After claiming your bags, if you have nothing to declare, which you probably don't, you pick up your luggage and head for the exit with the green light over it.
Customs agents will be watching you. If they wish to examine your luggage, they will call you over to a low table and ask you to open your bags. Comply with what they say. If no one stops you, then you're out the door into the terminal and that's it.
PS Do NOT smuggle anything,. especially drugs. Keep prescription drugs in their original bottles. Oh and as a packing tip, wrap any lotions, shampoos, etc. in ziplock bags, sometimes the luggage cabin pressure makes them leak, is messy.

They will NOT ask you anything.
After you collect your bags from the belt just walk through the green exit (there are three exits coloured red/blue/green - red is if you have something to declare, blue is if you've arrived from an EU country and green is nothing to declare).
The chances are that you will not even see a customs officer. You do not have to fill in a card for customs (unlike US customs) or speak to them --unless you are stopped
At some times -- usually when there is a flight arriving from a country with a drug smuggling reputation -- then there will be customs officers standing around in the hall, but I reckon you will not see them.
Customs will not be an issue, but you have to present your passport to a immigration officer before that; just a suggestion. Make sure you get in the correct line, i.e. NOT the EU passport one. It can be a bit chaotic at busy times when jumbos are arriving every 90 seconds and the lines can get backed up.
Second suggestion - ensure you know which terminal your return flight is using, as there are 4 terminals at Heathrow.
Have a great time in the UK

Here's the thing about customs these days...when you are on the plane...they have you fill out a card with your information on it. You can put down anything that you have to declare on the card, but it's not necessary. If you go through the nothing to declare line at customs, they may ask you a couple questions, but nothing to difficult and they stamp you through. Last time I was there, I was going to a concert with my boyfriend. They asked us how long we'd be staying, why we were there, and where the concert was at...and then he told us to enjoy our stay. It's very laid back and if you bring something through that you didn't declare, the only reason they'd search you is if you act strangely. It's very easy!

They will ask you if you had anything to declare? If do not have ,just go through Green Channel. If you have some items which are under UK rules liable to Custom duty, those would be charged and you need to pay duty before leaving Airport.Things like Cigarette(More than two cartons)and wine should be declared.Remaining information you may ask UK embassy. However they are generally friendly.
