Is it OK to wash light colored dirty cleaning rags (used to clean toilets, etc.) with other white colored clothes; like white shirts, underwear, etc.? I say it's OK because I add bleach to the wash and it helps save water & electricity by keeping the # of loads per day to a minimum. My spouse says it's unsanitary to wash these dirty cleaning rags w/ normal clothes and should be washed separately.

by the way, I am the husband and I do all the laundry; at least for the last couple years. I started working from home (IBM) and asked my wife what was the #1 chore she hated the most......and I'd do it. My wife is the one who thinks I should wash the cleaning rags separately. ;)

Unsanitary?
they are being washed for a reason
you wash your undies, which probably have pooh stains and skidmarks, with other clothes, so what's the difference?
YOU are right. go demand a sandwich for reparations.

I have a cleaning service and go through alot of rags in a day. First of all I never use rags on a toilet. Paper towels only and they're discarded. As for the rags they are washed seperately. Some of the chemicals that we use are harsh and would most likely ruin personal items. If you only have a few rags to wash. throw em out or wait till you have enough to make up a small load. Another suggestion would be to put them in with small area rugs or mats. Hope this helps

I would have to agree with your husband. I always wash my cleaning rags, dogs bedding, etc seperate from my clothes. Even if I do add bleach to the wash, it does not kill all of the germs and bacteria. And even if it did, I just wouldn't feel as if those clothes were clean.

I say you are right, using Bleach, I hope you are using Clorox, which has been proved to kill even HIV germs, then you are OK. If that isn't enough the heat from drying will kill anything which might be left. If this awnser doesn't suit him try asking the Clorox people how well their product works, go online to www.cloroxbleach.com. If that still doesn't work, rack it up to him being only a mere man, make him happy, save your sanity and wash them separately.

He may be right kind of. But there's always a better way to solve this. Instead of washing in front of him, you can wash them when you feel comfortable. Knowing that you are there to save him every single penny, you are only doing right at this time. However, I would suggest for time being and in the long run, I will accept my spouse especially if it's him to wash his way. IBy doing this, you are only making him happy and that's really important. Good luck with your efforts and happy joy ride. In a relationship or marriage, it's not so important as to who's who or who's right or wrong. In many cases, both could be wrong or right. The thing of the matter is one has to give in to other and this is where we walk in marriage.

personally its not some thing i would do , why not soak the rags in a bucket with the bleach etc, wash and rinse well and later spin in machine on their own. Or use throw away cloth or paper towels.

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with your spouse. It is really unsanitary to wash all that together. Yes they're being washed but doesn't mean you can wash them all together. Plus, what's wrong with wasting a little more water and money and insuring a healthy household environemt?

I wash all my rags with other white towels and/or sheets in hot water and bleach. Between the hot water and the dryer, all bacteria and germs get destroyed anyway. Unless, its grease, then I would wash it separate or just throw them away.

wash them separately. your spouse is right, it is unsanitary. they were used to clean poop. why do you want to wear poop? i wash stuff like that by itself. it's bad enough it's the same washer. bleach only kills 99.9% of germs. that .1% is still crawling around in the water and on the rags. yuck

Separately. Your spouse is right. For lots of reasons: sanitation, color bleed, lint, etc. Let's say the dirt leaves stains or the color bleeds, or you get hideous lint balls on your normal clothes. Then you will have to replace your normal clothes a lot sooner. How much does that save you?
