I'm 33 and my fiance and I want to start our family soon after we marry in November. Does anyone have any advice on how I can prepare myself and my body? And maybe even my hubby? ;-D

To answer RealMom's question... I waited because I wanted to find a good guy to be a father to my children. Unfortunately, it took me 33 years to track him down! LOL! However, I finally lucked out and found a fantastic man.

i started taking prenatal vitamins and drinking a glass of orange juice everyday. i would definitely lose any extra weight you want to lose now. we got pregnant so fast, i didn't have time. set the level of exercise you want for the next 40 weeks b/c you don't need to start any excercise routines unfamiliar to your body during the pregnancy. the insurance thing is definitely a good idea. i know that most require that you notify them 6 months in advance so you can start paying a higher premium. there are other options too like the maternity card. and depending on how weird you are, my hubby and i are, we started buying diapers and wipes. lol... as far as your husband. i would tell him that you guys need to openly discuss the changes that are going on with you. not just physically but also emotionally. i was a very independent person before i got pregnant and after i had a baby growing inside of me; i became a lot more clingy. my husband didn't know what to do with himself b/c he had never seen me like that. if you can get him to help you enjoy the pregnancy and not worry about things, that is also an invaluable gift.

According to some of the reading I have been doing it is not a bad idea to start taking prenatal vitamins prior to being pregnant for the benefit of the folic acid (I think they reccommend 400mcg but not 100% sure), the other thing is to look into your insurance benefits etc, to see what your coverage is (in case you need to make changes) and savings....as well as the advice everyone else gave you will be a newlywed enjoy that part as well!

You can start taking prenatal vitamins as they will provide you with the nutrients you need or take folic acid (there is folic acid in the vitamin so you don't have to take 2 different pills)

Don't get too stressed out about trying to conceive, let it come naturally.

I got pregnant on my honeymoon because I went off the pill thinking it would take a while to get out of my system!

If you smoke stop. See your doctor and get a check up. Talk to your doctor about starting prenatal vitamins before you get pregnant. I work in a clinic and we start women on them about 3 to 6 months before they get pregnant. Eat right and good luck and about the hubby teach him to change diapers, sing little silly baby songs, and learn to take care of momma and baby.

For now, just let nature take its course. After awhile, if you're not accidentally pregnant, then check things out with your doctors.

But don't focus on that, just enjoy one another and it will happen more naturally than if you try too hard.

There is a sort of "wives-tale" that trying too hard can actually make it harder to get pregnant. People have all sorts of stories that tend to confirm that. Relax.

Go to your doctor and have a pre-pregnacy exam. It will include drawing blood to make sure you are healthy. Take prenatal vitamins before you start trying, and obviously abstain from tobacco and alcohol. Good luck!!

It is important to take folic acid. You can go to the health department just to get pamplets to read...or you can get them at the doctor. Of course, stay as healthy as possible- no smoking, no drinking, eat right, exercise, etc.

check with your doctor there are test they can run and see if your body is ready or suitable to have a baby. my brothers wife did this and they found something on her ovary which was removed, but if they didn't know that it was there she would most likely had a misscarriage or birthdefects. but now the have a wonderfull baby boy. also you might want to lose weight because you'll gain alot during you prenancy.

Buy an ovulation test kit from the pharmacy and check for your ovulation. To play safe, do it every night!! I'm not kidding but thats really the best way to conceive.
