Yes, it will happen but how soon is the question. Colin Powell would have been well-supported by many whites but he would have lost, because America has not become mature enough to accept people by their abilities, not by color nor creed. However, who ever the first black president might be, he will be microscopically examined by his party as well as the voters and any minor flaw will be used against him. If I were such a person, I am not sure that I would like my life and the lives of my family so dissected. We have seen the media destroy white icons and for a black man or woman, it would be a feeding frenzy. I can't imagine anyone's life being so pure and untarnished but if by immaculate conception such a person were a candidate, I would vote for him for his sheer courage.

Absolutely.

Ironically, he or she must be Republican, or it won't happen.

The reason is that the American electorate is split pretty much 50/50 Democrat/Republican

Democrats get about 97% of the Black vote, with a republican Black nominee, they would win anywhaere from 25-50% of the black vote, which translates into 2-8% of the popular vote which wins them 3-6 more states.

If a democratic presidential candidate is black, it gains them no popular vote as they already get all they can from blacks and minorities and it may even lose them closet racists masquerading as liberals.

Possibly in a very, very long time. Although most people say they aren't racist, when it comes to these type things, so many are. But then again, Americans would vote anybody for president--look at some of the ones in the past....

Yes. Not soon sadly and probably not untill my final days. I would honestly say though he would be whit-washed. The guy would act more white to appeal to the whit voters and perhaps do a few black events to keep with in his roots. Politics remember? Think " The Wayne Brady Show " I'd like to see Paul Mooney as the first black president though. http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/5/5b/180px-Paul_mooney.jpg

Well Barek Obama (D) IL would/could prorably win the nomination. If the Repbulicans were smart in 2008 they would run Condi Rice for Office but that will never happen.

Yes, Who did you have in mind Al Sharpton? Perhaps Marion Barry? Oh yeah, Jesse Jackson or maybe the Love Child! Free cheese and crack subsidies win every time down south.

most likely.but when he is highly thought of as a candidate who happens to be black, rather than a black candidate.there is a vast difference between a candidate that earns respect through his work and words rather than because of his race.

Very funny..........Their are no good black candidates right now.
Colin Powell showed the world he couldn't stand up to the Bush administration when he was at the U.N lying about weapons of mass destruction coming out of Nigeria......anyone remember that................
