I'm 27, married with three kids... do you think a year is too long to wait to go out to the bar or something like that?

No, I don't think it's too long. I would however be very careful about bringing someone home. IMHO, I think you should date a guy for at least 3 months before actually bringing him. Introduction with a month is fine but to actually have him be a regular at your house definitely 3 months. Plus try getting the kids to do some fun activities outside with the new guy before the three months. If the kids don't like him usually there is a reason and if there isn't then talk with them and learn what it is that they don't like.

I still don't understand why you waited a year? Did something bad happen a year ago? Are you an alcoholic and have been sober a year? If its the latter than you should wait the rest of your life.
