We need to know the size of the snake and the direction of the stripes - maybe a garter snake.
Black and white bands could be a King snake...

Striped-garter snake or ribbon snake
Banded- probably a kingsnake.
Either way harmless based on your description. How the heck did he get "chased" by a snake? Only way I can think of is it was cornered and his only escape was past him...

Don't know.
I have hunted snakes & other reptiles for over 30 years and have never been chased by a snake.
Sometimes people misunderstand the actions of reptiles.
Interesting.

Could have been a Black Rat Snake. They are primarily black with some white bands. I have a few in my shop.
