Agree with the previous poster about the Phuket Vegetarian festival.
You should also see the Spirits Festival and the Loy Krathong festival in November in Chiang Mai - thousands of floating lanterns are placed on the canals at night.

The tigers at the Thailand Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi are definitely worth visiting for photos, as is the gigantic Buddha statues at Sukhothai, Thailand's equivalent to Angkor Wat.

Check out the Vegetarian Festival in Phuket the last week in October. It is an incredible experience but not for the squeamish. Make sure you stay for the last night for the street procession for the Sui Boon Tong Shrine. Bring a high speed camera with good low light capabilities and earplugs.
