Points are the rating system. There should be a bar explaining it on the side of your web page under My Q&A. I think the whole purpose is too keep people answering questions, but you also get privliages when you get to the higher levels-5-7.

define how good or bad u r at satisfying people at answering
if ur answer is chosen best answer you get 10 points extra
each time u ask a ? u lose 5 points
gain 1 or 2 points by rating, answering and reporting people of bad things they do on their questions or answers such as harassment or insulting
