On 9/11 the USA put on the table using a nuclear wepon if called for. How would you feel if for any reason the call for such an action is required by the USA and used?

I agree with fire4511 and would like to add that in order to protect our precious freedom and a nuclear weapon is necessary to do so....go for it!

There is no valid reason why we would have to use a nuclear weapon unless another country launched a nuclear attack against us. There is good reason why people call it MAD - mutually assured destruction. Nuclear weapons are mad. There is never any justification for making a preemptive strike. The policy of the current administration is stupid and wrong. If we used a nuke, I would hope it would be to destroy or deflect an asteroid that was headed this way. Nothing else makes any sense. I met 2 Japanese survivors of the nuclear bombings there and a Kazakh who was born with no arms thanks to the above-ground nuclear test site in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan. I would be so outraged if our government made such a stupid mistake.

It would be somewhat dependent on the circumstances. I'm not found of the fact that the only country to ever use a nuclear weapon is the USA, but under that context it was appropriate to end a war that likely would have resulted in more bloodshed on both sides. Not that I feel great about the decision, either.

But to use it as an anti-terrorist device? No way! Or to use one as a standard device in a convential war? No way, both sides die.

Its a real Pandora's box thing. I hope that box stays closed in the Middle East and Korea!

It will come to that eventually anyhow so why Wait. If Tehran can be taken off the map and Syria scared into withdrawing support for Hezbollah the problem in the middle east will be solved much faster. Using a tactical weapon in eastern Afghanistan could also take out the nuts there once and for all. The United States can not win in the UN because FRANCE, RUSSIA AND CHINA put their interest above world peace and block effective actions. The world is quick to jump on Israel but forget who is behind it all. That is because France, Russia and China are getting paid off by Iran. PERIOD.

Do USA put not enough radiactive "fertilizers" on Yugoslavia? Stupid people learn only from their own experience. Should international community take initiative to teach USA? Such pollution is not joke, many generations remember such things... But once profit from conflicts is so great for influential "elite", of course, USA may dicide to try the destiny of American people.

If you can split the innocent and evil on both sides of the atlas, then by all means, the nuclear weapon can be used. However, no matter how bad the country has done to USA, wat about the innocents, can you spare them the pain? Looking at Hiroshima after the nuclear bomb was dropped, so many innocent people had to suffer even many years after, for something Japan has done to USA.

I don't see any circumstance in which a nuclear weapon would have to be used...unless you're talking about N. Korea...in which I don't think we should use one unless it's in retaliation to being bombed.

Then again, it would be the stupidest thing in the world for them to bomb us, because they would know that we had the capability to bomb them back.

Basically, having nuclear weapons is enough to maintain domestic security, and I don't think it's morally right to use them as a form of preemptive strike.

We need to do everything and anything to protect ourselves and if that means having to use a nuclear weapon then that is what we have to do.
