Seperate your colors.
Reds go with reds, and wash cold.
Blacks with blacks, and wash cold.
All whites together, and wash hot.
The others you can figure out, but keep the others seperate
Only use bleach with the whites.

Number 1 thing NOT TO DO is wash your towels and wash rags with your clothing, you'll have lint all over the place. Wash whites with whites in hot water. Dark colored clothes should be washed in cold water to prevent fading. I use a detergent that already has fabric softener in it, so that saves a little bit of money not having to buy them both.

Seperate your clothes into a White pile, colored pile, and dark pile. Use warm or cold water to avoid shrinking, and don't over dry. Fold or hang immediately to avoid as many wrinkles as possible.

Use warm water for wash cycle -- fabric softener in rinse cycle.
Use Shout (or equivalent) on stains.
Don't bother to sort -- modern fabric dyes don't run.

Warm water only, no bleach with colored clothes, and whites should be done separate from colored clothes. Whites done with red may turn pink. Wouldn't that look lovely?!!!
