Both characters are main characters. Stories can have more than 1. Yes it is called PHANTOM of the Opera, but both are main characters since the story is based on both of them.

Christine- grew up and raised in the opera house, parents died when she was young (i think), beautiful voice, the phantom's love interest Raoul- Christine's "boyfriend" the prince (or rich something), the one who she is supposed to marry carlotta-lead singer of the opera, taken over by christine phantom-lives hidden in the opera house, was a "circus freak" that got away, haunts everyone, is in love with christine. I don't know Giry, i think the rest of these are accurate.

Well if you read the book it's the Phantom. However the movie centers on Christine more than the book did.

christine daae,my reason is that the camera is focused I'm her through out the movie also it is all about her relation ships the phantom just happens to be one of them

Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote his version of Phantom for his (now ex) wife. Therefore, in his version Christine is the focus.
