Start taking them as soon as you start trying. The most important thing is that you are taking plenty of folic acid. However, make sure you are taking a vitamin specifically labeled pre-natal, because taking too much of certain vitamins can actually be harmful to a fetus. Pre-natal vitamins will provide a better balance of nutrients, both more of what you do need and less of what could be harmful.

My OBGYN suggestes healthy wemon of child bearing years take prenatal vitamins when they become sexually active until they are pre menopausal. The vitamins are great for you not matter what your age. I have been taking then for 3 three years and have been married for a little over 2 years. We don't have any children yet and I am 24. I will continut to take them as long as my doctor gives me the thumbs up. You might talk to your dr about getting on them espically if your are trying to get pregnant.

When you decide to try getting pregnant it would be a good idea to start taking vitamins. They don't necessarily have to be doctor prescribed..it can be a multivitamin you buy on the store shelf. Make sure it has folic acid because that is one of the most important things your body needs during pregnancy.

If you are thinking about it and are not using birth control, now would be the time to start. Folic acid is so important to reducing birth defects such as neural tube disorders. Talk to your OB/gyn who can set up an appointment to go over everything you should know before you concieve. Good luck!

My ob-gyn said that if he had his way all women would take them all the time. He said especially if you may get pregnant, because the time when baby needs it most is in that first month when most ppl don't even know yet that they are preg. I still take mine- my baby is 4 months old and I have stopped nursing.
