I have checked with people around me and they are only getting a $75.00 bill. We are using over 3300 kwh of electricity for one month! Air conditioner is on 75 during the day and 74 during the evening. Water heater is set to 140 degrees but not heating our water. All our appliances are very energy efficient. Electric company checked the meter and confirmed working with no problems. PLEASE HELP!!!

I have verified the meter stops with main breakers off and turning each off individually.

Our electric bill has been out of line for the past two months. I am aware that heating & air conditioning accounts for 50% of our bill....just clueless and don't want someone to rip me off!

I can hire an electrician to see what is pulling how many amps, ect so if the electric company is blowing smoke, I'll find out. Isn't it worth it?

The biggest consumer of energy in the home is the air conditioning compressor. As it ages, the cost to operate can increase exponentially. You may be heading towards the end of the life-cycle on your equipment.

This may not be your case; but condos with roof-top units, depending on the conditions, can have condensing coils that deteriorate and greatly reduce efficiancy as well. As much as I hate to say it, it may be time to look at a new system. The good news is, some of the new makes and models can be incredibly efficiant, and pay for themselves in short order.

how many months in a row has this happened?

Do you know where all the plugs are in your condo? is someone stealing some of your electricity?

Do your neighbors have AC?

When everything in your condo is shut off... not using power... unplugged... Go check your meter and see if its still spinning. If its still spinning even though ALL your appliances are unplugged and your lights are off, then you obviously have a problem....

If it stops after you've unplugged:
Plug each thing back in one by one and check to see whats taking up so much power. Are you leaving windows open during the day when your AC is on? An air conditioner running on high all day can cost a lot...

Maybe your meter is hooked to someone elses unit, or to electricity the building is using.

Is that 3300 kw hrs per month

Turn off all your appliances unplug everything and see what happens.

See how much electricity you use in 1 hour as you turn the appliances on one by one, starting with the air conditioner.

With all appliances disconnected and lights turned off you should not be using an electricity.

See how much you are using each hour, with each appiance

Hmmmm....
Can you imagine a three-story, 3,543 sq. ft. house, paying an average of only
$65 on the electric bill- every 18 months?
Now to buisness. Find out what you rate is (cents per kwh) to clear up any problems there.
Tip: use this simple formula to figure out how many watts your appliance uses-Volts x Amps = Watts -which means that a 15 amp 120 volt A/C uses...
1,800 watts.
You can also buy a device to calculate your appliances energy usage and precise cost. This is just what you want!

all of us recognize what month that is. As your question isn't dated 6 months in the past. Oh - you could wager on getting a tremendous invoice in some unspecified time sooner or later. one way or the different. both the electric powered company will discover the blunders in an audit. Or the construction will ask your self why there appears to be like an addition to their invoice. it ought to correctly be a "uncommon forget" yet no longer one which will be a "perpetually forget". So - do what you choose. the right element to do is to call the electric powered company and inquire about it.

Look at you windows is there a tight sill? You might need More insulation the the attic? I have a 2800 squars foot house and my temp is set at 70 and my bill is never over 250.00. I like it cold in my house I also run a 10,000 window unit in a bed room all day and night.
it might be you furnace. ma bey it need check. try the filter. If not look at the insulation in your attic. If it looks good you might need a new furnace. I just replace my last winter, My heat bill was 700 a month since I installed a new one its not been over 200.

Everybody everywhere will be paying outrageous prices for electricity soon....The electric companies can charge us anything they want to because they know we have no other choice but to pay or do without..We can't go without, because electricity is a necessity, not a luxury.....I live in a double-wide trailer and my electric bill for one month is $600.00....Who can pay that?...hmmmm....do I eat, or do I keep my A/C?

that is WHAAACK there is definitely something wrong. i would suggest you check your meter when you go on vacation, and shut everything off. i would also suggest shutting everything off (including things like the fridge) and see if the meter stops turning. you need to do lots of experiments like this. i can recommend a company that consults on this if you want to hire someone.

Maybe they misread the meter? Something has to be increasing it incredibly...try unplugging some things at night or things you don't use regularly...
