Yes it hurts. Different people will have different answers depending on their own personal pain thresholds. For me, yes, piercing the cartilage did hurt much more than my ears. It also took a year for it to heal, thanks to my long hair and brushes getting caught all too frequently. Do expect a little more pain than your earlobe, some mild throbbing, and long healing times. Be sure to take very good care of it if you decide to do it! Good luck!

I had mine done a few yrs ago, had heard horror stories about how bad it hurt. Honestly it didn't bother me for a while but it seems that after a couple of months (or even more) it bothered me quite a bit to sleep on that side of my head and it lasted a while. It wasn't excruciating pain or anything, just a nagging bother. Overall, its been pierced about 3 or 4 yrs now, all is fine but make sure you keep an earring in..

Yes, and you have to be careful to get it done with a hollow needle at a real piercing place (as opposed to a stall at the mall.) If you get it pierced with a regular piercing gun, something happens to the cartilage and it gets all swollen and hard around the piercing location. This happened to me and it was very painful. I learned afterwards that I should have had it done with a hollow needle, which is what the use when they pierce your nose....

No more than getting your ear pierced. Cartilage has no nerves.

I think it hurts, I have my belly button pierced and a tattoo. I think piercing your ears are the most painful.

My wife says that at first she didn't feel a thing, but then it started burning. But that went away in about an hour. After that it was sore when she laid on it for about a week. She has a small loop in her upper ear.
